We are talking about basic plastic hanguards held on by the good old delta ring. They require you to change the barrel nut, which gets into very specific parts.

This is all much easier to test empirically rather than theoretically.ĭPMS has already stated that regular AR15 handguards and freefloat tubes will not fit the LR308 line of rifles.they just don't outright say that it is probably to force us to buy the parts they make, just like they changed the dimensions on there uppers, so railed handguards also no longer match up for one continuous top rail. Or take the handguards off the 308, and find someone with a basic AR-15 and see if the 308 ones work. I expect someone has some old carbine handguards sitting around gathering dust. I agree that the standard handguard for 308 used to be the ribbed FF tube, but clearly they have incorporated standard style, non FF handguards on the Sportical and Oracle models. But you can also see that the the difference between the hole and the full outside diameter is much smaller on the 308.
Now clearly the hole is bigger on the 308 for that larger extension. I agree with the idea that since the 308 barrel extension is bigger then regular AR15 handguards cant work.
